Gift Giving Without Gifts
“Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming!”
“Only XX more shopping days until Christmas!”
Panicking yet? Dreading January bills? And once it’s all over, WHAT are you going to do with all that new stuff?
The Goal
This year I’d like to suggest instead of gifting things, you donate to a charity your loved one is passionate about. If you don’t know where to give, ask. I promise it will open a window for new conversations & you’ll have a chance to better get to know that special person in your life.
I think we all recognize the significant role nonprofits contribute to a better life in our area. Months after the shutdown, it’s no secret, many people & entities are still facing hard times. Kansas City is blessed with amazing nonprofits: The Nelson, Mattie Rhodes, the zoo, KC Pet Project, the library, & more. Below are a few that tug at my heartstrings & brief a description of their Mission (which have been edited for length).
The Short List
Bridging the Gap works to make the Kansas City region sustainable providing environmental education & volunteer action. They have programs that include recycling, litter pick up, protecting water ways, &, my personal favorite, replacing the tree canopy in Kansas City. https://bridgingthegap.org/
Happy Bottoms provides a monthly supply of diapers or training pants to children in need through local social service agency sites. https://happybottoms.org/
Harvesters is the premier food bank for our region. https://www.harvesters.org/
KC Grooming Project helps impoverished families become self-reliant through job training in the high-demand, high-pay trade of pet grooming. The Project’s education-based approach financially empowers single parents in poverty & ensures that they focus on improving their family’s future through parenting & budgeting classes, mental health support, & life skills courses. https://thegroomingproject.org/
NO Shame provides Kansas City's underserved communities with access to period products & other healthcare related resources to help improve the community’s overall quality of life & health. https://noshamekc.com/locations
Who Do You Love?
Which charities do you support? I’d love to know. As a home organizer, I maintain an active list of entities that accept donations. This helps ensure my client’s possessions find a good home & we keep needless items out of the landfill.
Should you find yourself over-whelmed by too much stuff, reach out! I would love to help you Clear Out the clutter so you can Breathe In the peace & calm of your home.
Warmest Wishes,
Tracy
