Renovating Spaces

Greetings friends!

Recently we renovated our primary bathroom. I had been chomping at the bit to do this for years. Not only was the room dated but the shower had an extremely cold, institutional feel to it. Think, Jessica Lange in Frances Farmer. If you saw it, you know where I’m coming from.

The Domino Effect

Because of the demolition, it was necessary for my husband and me to vacate our primary suite and move to the 3rd floor where I had my office. Perhaps you’re aware that home renovations can put in motion a serious domino effect? Please see a previous instagram post regarding this privileged position and my nomatic office situation. While you’re there, feel free to follow me, @clearoutbreatheinkc.

Pack it up

Packing up and moving, even to another room in the same house, can be fun and adventurous. It can also be exhausting, inconvenient, and time consuming. Because we were going to be out of our room throughout the holiday season and well into cold weather, there was a lot to consider having easy access to. Fortunately, being late fall, this came at a great time to change out my clothes from warm to cold weather. This gave me a chance to go through my summer things and cull the herd of clothing I knew I wouldn’t wear again.

Let’s take a closer look

The bathroom however was another situation. When was the last time you seriously reviewed your makeup drawer, collection of medicines, and hair accessories? Let me tell you, a renovation is a perfect time to go through what you own and consider whether something is worth keeping.

Prioritize what you need

The bathroom we were to share was TINY. Like so small, if the 2 of us wanted to be in there at the same time, one of us had to stand in the shower. This meant there was only space to have those items I used regularly (i.e. daily or weekly basis) on hand. The rest of the things were kept in small labeled bins in an axillary space.

Light at the end of the tunnel

After a few months, we had survived the process. It was so worth it! Our primary bathroom has gone from scary to spa-like. It was a joy to put all of the items I use and need back in my new, clean, beautiful space.

You’re In Good Hands
